Sirens is a different sort of event. We've drawn elements from academic conferences, professional retreats, and fan conventions to create a space that welcomes scholars, authors, educators, librarians, professionals, and readers alike. All attendees, regardless of background, are welcome to submit presentations, and we hope that all attendees will spend the weekend examining, discussing, and even disagreeing about women in fantasy literature. Please use this section of our website to explore our conferenceand if you've already decided to attend, please use this section to learn what's in store for you at Sirens. Sirens will feature several different elements over four days. The core of our conference is our programming, which is proposed and presented entirely by our attendees. When the time comes, our accepted programming page will provide summaries of our programming topics. Please visit our programming section for more information on how we determine our programming and how you may submit a presentation for consideration. In addition to our programming, Sirens will feature keynote presentations by our guests of honor, and each guest will present her work as part of our Bedtime Stories evening as well. Please see our guests of honor page for more information on our 2012 guests: Kate Bernheimer, Nalo Hopkinson, and Malinda Lo. Finally, Sirens includes some events and activities that are more interactive or just plain fun. Please see our featured events page for more information about our Midnight Ball, or check out our activities page to learn about some of our more hands-on programs. Also, if you are interested in our Sirens Supper, an additional-cost dinner hosted by the conference staff on Wednesday, October 10, please see our featured events page for that information as well. |
