Sirens is about women in fantasy literature, and what better way to celebrate the achievements of women in fantasy literature than to read, read, read? The following list is only a starting point for reading fantasy literature by and about women, but if you're looking for outstanding books or something to share with other attendees, we suggest you start here.
Most of our staff have read most of these books—some of our staff have read all of these books!—and many of our attendees will have as well. Some were chosen for their influence, some for their controversy, and some simply because they're a great read! To discuss these books, we invite you to visit the reading list section of our message boards. To purchase these books, please consider using the links below, which will take you to the website of Tattered Cover, an independent Denver bookseller; if you use those links and then purchase books or other items, Sirens will receive a referral fee from Tattered Cover.
Also, if you're interested in a more general discussion of books and reading, we invite you to join us at Narrate Conferences's book discussion LiveJournal,
narrate_books. The discussion isn't focused around any particular conference or type of literature, though our attendees tend to read a lot of fantasy, science fiction, speculative fiction, steampunk, horror, and young adult literature. Occasionally, we will host a more specific discussion of a given book or author's work.
